"I have been involved in photography, in both professional and non-professional capacities, since I was about 15, over 40 years ago, and it has given me access to many situations…..from top secret car launches to the prop and puppet department of the children's TV show which was the current favourite of my children.
Photography is all about light and I knew the Village Green stage would look fantastic in the dark, with the tulip shape being colourfully lit by Andy-Barak Smith, so I photographed ‘Rag n Bone Man’, staying clear of the crowded photographer’s pit and looking more at the spectacle of colour than the man himself.
Photographing bands makes you watch and listen to artists you might not otherwise consider, sometimes with fresh eyes and ears. I was never a fan of ‘StereoMCs’ as it wasn’t my sort of music as a teenager, but they played a fantastic set and to my surprise I really enjoyed them.
This will be my 3rd year as a volunteer photographer at Village Green and to be honest I only do it for one reason…..I enjoy it. It’s a long day, out in all weather and on your feet all day, but you see the festival from a different perspective, and it’s nice feeling a bit involved with it."
