JONATHAN KIPPS - ARTIST VILLAGE CURATOR

Visual Artist from Southend & curator of Village Green’s Artist Village...

Kipps’ artistic work spans sculpture, painting, photography and performance. He has always been interested in the relationship between artwork music and ways of experiencing the two together.

For Artist Village Kipps has invited 8 artists, some local to the area and some from further afield, to come and spend time in Chalkwell Park developing and making new work especially for Village Green. The artworks created form a strong visual layer for the festival experience and span everything from large scale sculptural works to spontaneous performative pieces. The Artworks can be simply happened upon in passing or actively sought out using the Artist Village map (available to download here soon, or at the information stand on the day).

ABOUT JONATHAN:

Having grown up in Southend Kipps went on to study at Nottingham Trent University and Slade School of Fine Art, London. He has exhibited across the UK and internationally including France, Japan and Senegal. Kipps recently made 60 unique sculptures, which double up as tape cassette covers, to house the soundtrack of a performance with Stuart Bowditch. In 2010 Kipps made the album artwork for Get Cape Wear Cape Fly’s 3rd (self titled) album in which the CD sleeve could be folded to make the sculpture pictured on the cover. Kipps is also co-founder of UN-* (UNhyphen) in which Artists collaborate with Musicians to create one-off experiences in borrowed spaces such as school gyms and WWII pill boxes.
