NELSON & FRIENDS + ARTVIVA MOZAMBIQUE SHOW

A collective in East London of afrofusion, blending Mozambique music with jazz and funk.

Nelson Neves was born in Beira, Mozambique from the Cena tribe. He started off his music career in 2000 while working as a performing artist in a singing & dancing company of Casa de Cultura of Beira. He is the founder of the well-known band in Mozambique called Djaaka. He toured in various countries in Europe & Africa. This led him and the band to record their first album Mbole Mbole Nha Ngona. In 2004, Nelson moved to the United Kingdom and delivered numerous workshops in schools, community centres, and detention houses. He then gave support to Massukos for their tour in 2008 with the dancing and choreography on different stages such Womad Festival, Africa Oye and Glastonbury Festival as well as in other local venues. In 2015, Nelson created “Nelson & Friends” collective in London, an Afro-fusion project, which blends Mozambique music with jazz and funk. The collective has gained a whispered reputation around East London for their irresistible rhythms and captivating melodies, which makes it impossible for even the most reluctant dancer not to get up on their feet and move.
